MEP Zovko met BiH Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Brkić in Brussels
Member of the European Parliament Željana Zovko had a meeting yesterday with the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Josip Brkić.
Zovko and Brkić discussed the so-far progress made by Bosnia and Herzegovina in the European integration process, as well as the future steps in the Bosnia and Herzegovina’s accession process and the required changes to the Election Law, which are to dismantle the possibility of one nation electing the representatives of the other nation to the House of Peoples and the state Presidency.
Furthermore, Zovko and Brkić discussed the EU enlargement strategy onto the Western Balkans, which will be presented next week on Tuesday on a plenary session in Strasbourg and which is expected to present precise dates when the countries of the Western Balkans might become full members of the EU. After the enlargement strategy, the EU will release in April the progress reports for all candidate-countries and potential candidates.
At the end of the meeting, Zovko and Brkić stressed the importance of Bulgarian Chairmanship of the EU Council and priorities that it must not be forgotten that the Western Balkans needed a European perspective and relation with the member-countries. They also welcomed the summit between the EU and the Western Balkans countries to be held in May in Sofia.
