Brusseles, 21 March 2017 – Member of the European Parliament, Željana Zovko, has hosted today the visitors from Croatia who arrived to Brussels to attend the ceremony on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of signing the Treaty of Rome. All the ceremony attendants were welcomed by the President of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani, followed by inspirational speeches about strengthening of the European identity and the refugees’ issue, given by Barbara Hendricks and the Austrian author Robert Menasse.
After the ceremony, the Croatian visitors and the MEP Zovko participated in the “Citizens’ Parliament“ conference, the main goal of which was to offer the European citizens a unique opportunity to discuss the topical issues with the Parliament members in the plenary session hall in Brussels. The following topics were on the agenda: the actual situation in the European Union, challenges faced and to be faced by the Union, youth unemployment, globalisation, future of the Union after Brexit, safety and security of citizens, climate changes and possible responses to the current and future challenges. The conference was attended by 751 citizens from Europe.
MEP Zovko said that was a unique opportunity for the citizens to hear on the spot about the burning issues of the European Union. “It makes me very happy that the citizens of Croatia have had an opportunity today to be directly involved in the debate on the best scenario of building the future of our Europe.“
