Zovko: Culture is the most efficient instrument of reconciliation in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Brussels, 31 May 2017 – Member of the European Parliament, Željana Zovko, participated today in the working breakfast , with prominent cultural workers from Bosnia and Herzegovina – Ivo Čolak, Robert Bubalo, Haris Pašović, Dino Mustafić, Nenad Novaković and Sarita Vujković, hosted by Cristian Dan Preda, Standing Rapporteur of the EP for BiH.

Exchange of opinions during the breakfast was an excellent opportunity for the cultural workers from Bosnia and Herzegovina to present the current situation of the cultural sector in the country, considering how important culture is as an integral element of the European identity and having in mind that Bosnia and Herzegovina has recently filed the EU membership application. The MEPs used the opportunity to get a better understanding of the situation and to offer support in raising awareness of the cultural issues in the EU enlargement process.

“Within the EU Strategic Document for International Cultural Relations, adopted yesterday by the EP Foreign Affairs Committee, to be placed on the agenda of the plenary session in Strasbourg to be held in July, I firmly believe that the instruments of cultural diplomacy must be enhanced, as we all must be aware that culture is certainly the most efficient instrument of reconciliation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.“ – as of Zovko.
