Member of the European Parliament Željana Zovko met yesterday with the representatives of the Croatian community in Chile in the Estadio Croata. The meeting was attended also by the Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to Chile, Nives Malenica and representatives of the Croatian diaspora in Chile.
MEP Zovko discussed with the representatives of the Croatian community, which is very respectable both in economic and political life in Chile, about ways of improving the cooperation in economy, initiatives and models of investing in the Republic of Croatia and of preserving the Croatian identity, cultural heritage, language, tradition and customs, as well as about the idea of opening a virtual museum of the Croatian diaspora in South America.
Furthermore, they also discussed models of voting at the Croatian elections outside the Republic of Croatia, which may guarantee them full representation both in the Croatian Parliament, but also in the European Parliament, according to models successfully applied in other European countries.
MEP Zovko said that it was her great pleasure and honour to meet the representatives of the Croatian community in Chile. Considering the fact that she was an EPP rapporteur for Chile, she added that their experience and ideas they conveyed to her during the meeting will certainly be of a great assistance to her in her further Chile-related activities in the European Parliament.
MEP Zovko attends today and tomorrow the 25th meeting of the EU-Chile Joint Parliamentary Committee.
