The EPP members discussed various topics such as promotion of fundamental values of the European Union, opportunities of economic growth and competitiveness, research and development, strengthening of young population in the EU, future of transatlantic relations, relations with Russia, security situation in the Mediterranean, enhancement of external EU dimension and stimulating development in third countries.
This year’s EIN merit award for contribution to development of the European project, promotion of rule of law, democracy and Christian values goes to former President of Poland Lech Wałęsi. The award-presentation ceremony is scheduled for Friday.
MEP Zovko said on the most recent developments in the Western Balkans: “EU must give a clear response to challenges of the migrants’ inflow on its longest border with South-Eastern Europe. The most recent events in BiH and migrants’ inflow require more attention of the European Union, in order to prevent spilling of instabilities out into the EU.“
“Only the EU with its deeply rooted values and with its more intensive involvement may offer a solution for instability threating the EU member-candidates.“ – concluded Zovko.
