Neum, 16 March 2018 – Member of the European Parliament Željana Zovko has participated today in the interdisciplinary conference ”Solution of the Croat Issue for the European Bosnia and Herzegovina“, organised in Neum under the high patronage of the Croat member of the BiH Presidency Dragan Čović.
Many University professors and experts from culture, public life and other fields gathered at the Conference to give their contribution to the definition and adoption of the solutions for systematic equality of the Croat nation in BiH in the interest of the European perspective and democratic development.
Some of the speakers were the Croat member of the BiH Presidency, Dragan Čović, rector of the University of Mostar, prof. dr. sc. Zoran Tomić, rector of the University “Josip Juraj Strossmayer” in Osijek, prof. dr. sc. Vlado Guberac and academician Jakov Pehar from the Croatian Academy of Arts and Sciences in BIH.
MEP Zovko participated in the panel ”Equality through Presentation and Representation of (un)equal groups: fair Election Law as a pre-condition for equality and integration in BiH“. She reflected on the European Parliament Resolution on Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the creation of which she was actively involved in the year 2017.
Not only in this most recent Resolution of the European Parliament, but also in all earlier EP Resolutions Zovko repeatedly pointed out to the importance of implementing the key institutional reforms, which were of uttermost importance for successful European prospects of BiH.
Zovko further stated that the European Parliament had realised the importance of implementing the 2016 Decision of the Constitutional Court on changes to the Election Law as a key institutional reform for the successful accession path of BiH to the EU.
The European Parliament Resolution 2017 states that changes to the Election Law must be based on principles of federalism, decentralisation, constitutivity and equality of all three constitutive nation in the process of electing their legal political representatives to the House of Peoples of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
