Bruxelles, 22 November 2018
MEP Zovko has participated in the debate on the Debriefing on the EP Election Observation Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina and in the second exchange of views about the 2018 Commission Report on Bosnia and Herzegovina, held on the today’s meeting of the Committee for Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament (AFET).
Reflecting on the recently held elections in BiH, MEP Zovko addressed the issue of foreign influence in the country. “It is high time to seriously consider the foreign influences in BiH.” said Zovko.
In the second part of the debate, Zovko pointed out that the prime-minister of the Republic of Croatia Andrej Plenković addressed at the European Council the issue of the recently held elections in BiH and about harsh violation of the Dayton Peace Agreement. Consequently, this issue was addressed at the AFET as well.
“There are 500,000 Croats-EU citizens living in BiH and it is therefore in our interest to keep peace and stability on the BiH border. The European Parliament has adopted four resolutions on BiH so far, in which they offered a middle way between the two extremes – separatism and unitarism. The middle way is the only possible EU solution for Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well federalisation, implementation of the European Parliament resolutions, compliance with the Constitutional Court decisions and the Dayton Peace Agreement until it is changed.“ concluded MEP Željana Zovko.
