Bruxelles, 21. January 2019. – During the meeting of the committee in the European foreign affairs, Member of the European Parliament Željana Zovko intervened during a debate on the future association agreement between the EU and Andorra, Monaco and San Marino. As a shadow rapporteur for the EPP on this file, she defended her amendments to the proposed report.
The association agreement has as objective to provide access for the aforementioned countries to the EU Internal market and to encourage the application of the four freedoms within their territories. With these goals, both parties want to foster their longstanding relations and create an integrated cooperation based on the EU acquis and their shared political, cultural and social values.
A particular characteristic of the on-going negotiations is the territorial dimension of Andorra, Monaco and San Marino. Their small size and the relevant social, economic and administrational implications thereof require sufficient attention during the negotiation process. In this light, Ms. Zovko proposed the creation of an efficient framework in order to facilitate the implementation of the association agreements and to ensure a consistent interpretation of the EU acquis within the respective states.
