Strasbourg, 13 March
The Plenary session of the European Parliament adopted the report on recommendations regarding the association agreement between the EU and Andorra, Monaco and San Marino. Member of the European Parliament Željana Zovko took the floor during the debate to defend her work as the rapporteur of the EPP Group. Ms Zovko managed to implement balanced amendments that benefit the European relations with these neighbouring countries.
In her statement Ms. Zovko pointed at the importance of the recognition of the territorial dimension of the three countries. Since this characteristic has a severe impact on the capacity of the national administration of these states, Ms Zovko proposed appropriate measures to adopt an institutional framework that will help the effective and efficient implementation of the association agreement.
As Ms. Zovko mentioned, the three states have each in their own right, pursued important reforms and realised regulatory alignment with the EU, in particular regarding the regulation of banking and finance. By adopting the tabled report, the European parliament shows its support for these achievements and encourages a rapid conclusion of the negotiations of the agreement.
