Brussels, 22 June 2020
In today’s meeting of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, the members of the European Parliament hold a voting session on the report on EU-African security cooperation in the Sahel region, West Africa and the Horn of Africa and on the opinion on the Gender Equality in EU’s foreign and security policy. As shadow rapporteur on both files Željana Zovko represented the EPP in the negotiations of the draft texts. Both the report and the opinion will be tabled for the final approval in the September plenary session.
As EPP vice coordinator for foreign affairs, Zovko will also take the floor in the discussion on the situation in Albania. In an exchange of views with the European Commission, the members of the foreign affairs committee will discuss the conditions of the European Council in relation to the accession negotiations with Albania and the latest political developments in the country.
In the meeting of the Committee on Culture and Education, the members discussed in the morning the report to “green” Erasmus+, Creative Europe and the European Solidarity Corps. Zovko, who also holds the position as EPP shadow rapporteur for this file, emphasized the importance of these European programs for our economic recovery after the corona pandemic, thanks to their impact on our culture, tourism and mobility. She also recognized the enhanced impact of a more sustainable version of the programs, both for the participants as well as for their surroundings.
