Member of the European Parliament Željana Zovko is re-elected as Vice-Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET). The elections are a part of the mid-term procedure that determine the Parliament’s leadership for the second half of the mandate.
Zovko commented on the results by stating that it is a great honour to extend her role in the board of AFET. “I thank my colleagues for the support in my work and look forward to continue the cooperation across party lines. This re-election is a recognition of my work over the last years and I remain committed do my utmost in articulating a strong voice in the EU’s foreign policies.” AFET is the key committee of the European Parliament that focusses on the EU’s geopolitical role in the world and contributes to the European Common Foreign and Security Policy.
With the re-election, Zovko continues to be part of the bureau of the committee and, together with the Chair and the other Vice-Chairs of S&D, Renew and ECR, Zovko will contribute to the planning and coordination of the committee’s activities, impartially chair the regular committee meetings and participate in diplomatic meetings with high level and senior officials.
Last week, Zovko has also been re-elected as vice-coordinator to AFET for the EPP Group and serves as the EPP Group Vice-President.
