Vice chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs in the European Parliament Željana Zovko participated in a mission of the Subcommittee on Security and Defence to South Korea and Japan.
In Seoul, Zovko had in-depth discussions with South Korean Defense Minister Lee Jong-sup, Special Representative for Peace and Security on the Korean Peninsula Kim Gunn, Coordinator for Indo- Pacific Strategy Lim Sangwoo and members of the South Korean National Defense Committee as well as the Defence industry association. The delegation also visited the Demilitarised Zone where they were briefed by the United Nations Military Armistice Commission.
In Japan, meetings were held with Nobuo Kishi, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister and Jiro Kimura, Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Defence and Shohei Ishii, the Chief of the Japan Coast Guard. The members discussed the deteriorating security environment in Europe and East Asia and underlined the importance to enhance the EU-Japan cooperation, especially on defence.
