Strasbourg, 26 November 2025
Željana Zovko’s report on the implementation of the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement was adopted by the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
As member of the committee on foreign affairs (AFET) and rapporteur for the UK, Zovko successfully included in the report the importance of the joint EU-UK role in upholding the Dayton-Paris Peace Agreement.
Zovko welcomed the adoption of the report on the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement as well as the inclusion of amendments on the crucial role of the Good Friday Agreement and the call on all stakeholders to uphold it and ensure its implementation, as an essential condition for peace and stability.
The adoption of the report occurs at a time when the EU and the UK are facing common challenges in a context of rising geopolitical instability and security threats.
That is why, Zovko welcomed in the report the call for increased EU-UK cooperation in the fight against hybrid threats, cyberattacks and disinformation campaigns. Likewise, the report calls for seizing the momentum created by the signing of the Security and Defence Partnership signed between the EU and the UK.
In the area of education, Zovko underlined that the report positively calls on the EU and the UK to deepen their academic cooperation and welcomes the commitment of the EU and the UK to work towards the UK’s association with the Erasmus+ programme.
“At a time of rising geopolitical turbulence, the report underscores the need for the EU and the UK to further deepen their cooperation in key regions, including the Middle East, the Sahel, and the Western Balkans, as well as in ensuring maritime security in the Red Sea. This approach aligns with the EU’s objective of strengthening ties with like-minded partners and calls for building on the momentum created by the EU–UK summit last May”, she stated.
