Zovko hosted a conference on federalism in European states and how it can lead to stability and power sharing

Vice Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament Željana Zovko hosted a conference today on “Modern federalism – a European formula for stability and power sharing”. The panellists discussed different federalist structures in European countries, such as Belgium, Italy and Bosnia and Herzegovina and exchanged views on the lessons learned.

Next to Zovko also David McAllister, Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament, presented his introductory remarks. Thereafter followed the contributions of Wouter Beke, member of the Belgian Federal Chamber of Representatives and Herbert Dorfmann, Member of the European Parliament representing South Tyrol.

The panel continued with statements by Bariša Čolak, Member of HDZ BiH in the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Zdenko Ćosić, Prime Minister of the Western Herzegovina Canton, Josip Brkić, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Ivan Pepić as envoy of the Prime Minister of Croatia and the Croatian Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs. The panel was moderated by Milan Sitarski, Senior member of the Institute for Social and Political Research (IDPI) in Mostar.

The conference was organised as a contribution to the debate on the Croat position in Bosnia and Herzegovina. As guests of Zovko, other participants were Ivanka Barić, President of HKDU, Miro Grabovac, President of HDU, Nikola Raguž, President of HSP BiH, Pero Barbarić, President of HKDU – Hrast, Milijan Nakić, President of HSP dr. Ante Starčević,  Josip Merdžo, General Secretary HNS.
