Brussels, 22 April 2022

Željana Zovko, Vice Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee, met today with U.S. Senators Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) and Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) in the European Parliament. The U.S. Senators came to Brussels after a three days mission to the Western Balkans visiting Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo.

With their stop in Brussels, the U.S. delegation aimed to highlight the transatlantic cooperation in foreign affairs and security issues. Zovko welcomed the delegation’s commitment to the EU-U.S. relations. “The EU and U.S. are close geopolitical partners. By coming to the European Parliament after their meetings in the Western Balkans, the delegation emphasizes the joint transatlantic role in preserving stability and security in the region. I thank the Senators for their support for the region’s path toward integration into the European Union.” Zovko said.

Zovko, who is also the EPP rapporteur on relations with the U.S. and the EPP Vice President coordinating relations with the U.S. Congress, will travel to Washington D.C. on 8-15 May for more bilateral meetings with members of both the Senate and the House of Representatives. During this visit, Zovko will follow up on today’s meeting and further discuss the EU-U.S. cooperation on foreign affairs and security matters.
