Brussels, 30 January 2017 – The Foreign Affairs Committee at the European Parliament discussed at its today’s session the Report on the 2016 Commission Report on Bosnia and Herzegovina. The MEPs supported the progress made by Bosnia and Herzegovina on the accession path to the European Union and called for further progress in implementation of institutional and other reforms, such as reform of the rule of law and the fight against organised crime and corruption and for implementation of the ruling of the European Court for Human Rights and for care for equality of all constitutive nations in Bosnia and Herzegovina and legitimate political representation of its citizens.
The MEP Željana Zovko said: “I welcome the Report by the MEP Preda and the European Parliament Resolutions passed in 2014 and 2015, which mention the principle of federalisation as the only possible way to observe the constitutive architecture of BiH. It is a high time to learn some lessons about BiH now, 25 years after the war and to offer some practical solutions instead of trying to implement those which are impossible to be implemented. We have to respect the fact that there are the constitutive nations in BiH. Other wishes may be considered only after BiH becomes a member of the EU. “
