Brussels, 20 February 2019
Member of the European Parliament Željana Zovko has participated today in the European Parliament in launching of the “Let’ act#Together4FireSafety” campaign, the main goal of which is to raise awareness of a need to improve the fire-fighting methods, appealing primarily to policy-creators to assume an important role in the process, especially considering the fact that fire-safety is highly dependent on efficient implementation of the fire-fighting regulations at all levels – national, regional and local.
Zovko was involved in creation of the Report on the Union Civil Protection Mechanism as a rapporteur for the opinion from the Committee on Development (DEVE). The new advanced Union Civil Protection Mechanism and the rescEU instrument aim at establishing the EU own capacities for tackling natural disasters and disasters caused by humans to be used in situations when the member-states may not provide support.
As a part of the campaign, MEP Zovko appeared in the TV show “Home2″ (“Dom na kvadrat”), where she pointed out that due to the complexity of the issue, the process of improving the fire-safety field must involve the member-states on a large scale, as well as open discussions on the outstanding problems. She furthermore stressed that the process must be independent and of course, unbiased. “It is up to all of us to take care of the fire safety by undertaking the fire-protection measures at the EU level.“ added Zovko.
MEP Zovko registered for continuation of the engagement on fire-safety.
