Željana Zovko joined Manfred Weber in visit to North Macedonia to support the region to an EU perspective

Brussels, 5 December 2019

On Tuesday 3 December, Member of the European Parliament Željana Zovko visited Skopje, North Macedonia together with Manfred Weber, Chairman of the EPP Group, and her colleague MEP Kovatchev. The aim of the visit was to underline the EPP Group’s commitment to a credible European perspective for the countries in the region.

During the visit, Zovko had constructive meetings with The North Macedonian President Pendarovski and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Internal Affairs Spasovski, as well as with the President of VMRO-DPMNE Party, Hristijan Mickoski, member of EPP. Zovko concluded the visit with an event organised by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung on the current situation in North Macedonia.

As vice coordinator for the EPP in the committee of Foreign Affairs, Zovko works rigorously on the European relations with the Western Balkans and their path towards EU accession. After the latest decision of the Council not to open the accession negotiations with North Macedonia and Albania, Zovko negotiated the European Parliament’s resolution emphasizing the common disappointment of this result and highlighting the missed opportunity to improve peace and stability.
