Željana Zovko, Vice President of the EPP Group in the European Parliament responsible for relations with US Congress, participated in a mission of the EPP group’s political academy to the West Coast of the United States. The objective of the mission was to gain a deeper understanding of the American perspective in the academic world and the digital sector on transatlantic cooperation.
On the first day, the EPP delegation visited Silicon Valley, where they held a series of meetings with senior representatives and directors of leading digital companies such as META, Alphabet and Cisco Systems. In addition, Zovko also joined the delegation in a visit to the NASA AMES Research Center.
The mission continued with several meetings at Stanford University, including with representatives of the Stanford Europe Center and a roundtable with researchers from the Hoover Institute. After a lunch with Professor Francis Fukuyama, the delegation visited the Stanford University Computer Science Department and the Byers Center for Biodesign.
On Thursday, meetings took place in San Francisco at the EU Office and at Uber. Zovko also made tike to meet with the Consul General of the Republic of Croatia in Los Angeles, Renee Pea, and exchanged views with the Croatian community in San Francisco in the Croatian-American Cultural Center.
