Brussels, November 16, 2024
Member of the European Parliament and Chief Observer of the EU election observation Mission Željana Zovko, will be making a return visit to Jordan from November 16 to 20.
During the visit, Zovko will be received in audience by His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan. The visit will provide an opportunity to present the final report of the election observation mission, which will be handed over to the President of the Independent Election Commission, along with recommendations for improving the electoral process.
This return visit and the presentation of the final report are a significant and symbolic moment, as the parliamentary elections held on September 10 took place in the context of the political modernization initiated by King Abdullah II in 2021, and were conducted despite unprecedented security challenges in the region.
The final report will be presented to the media and the public at a press conference scheduled for Tuesday, November 19, at 11:00 AM.
Let us remind you that Zovko visited Jordan in August and September, where she led the election observation mission which included a total of 120 observers from 27 EU member states, as well as countries such as Norway, Canada, and Switzerland. During her previous visits to the country, Zovko met with Prince El Hassan bin Talal, representatives of state institutions, authorities, political parties and candidates, civil society organizations, especially women, youth representatives, the media, and others who play key roles in ensuring a credible, peaceful, transparent, and inclusive electoral process.
