Zovko appointed rapporteur on the consent procedure on the Association agreement with Andorra and San Marino

Brussels, 5 February 2025

Željana Zovko, Member of the committee on foreign affairs and rapporteur for small-sized state, has been appointed rapporteur on the consent procedure on the Association agreement with Andorra and San Marino.

Zovko was working on this file in the last two terms as rapporteur on the Association agreement between the EU and Monaco, Andorra and San Marino. She then advocated an enhancement of relations with these three countries through integration in the EU internal market and cooperation on areas of common interest.

During the pandemic, Zovko advocated for equal access to the collective vaccine procurement process for Andorra, San Marino, and Monaco. Additionally, she championed their inclusion in the European Political Community, seeking to strengthen their ties with broader European cooperation.

Zovko highlighted that this Association agreement with Andorra and San Marino is a successful result of a long process of negotiations between the EU and these two neighbouring countries.

Zovko stressed that the Association agreement provides for a comprehensive framework of cooperation by establishing the participation of Andorra and San Marino in the EU’s internal market and by furthering cooperation with Andorra and San Marino on areas of common interest such as education, the environment, research and development, consumer protection and culture.

Zovko also expressed her hope that the EU and the Principality of Monaco will conclude an Association agreement in the future, once all conditions are met, as Monaco remains a key partner for the EU.
