Adoption in the AFET committee of amendments proposed by Zovko on the report on North Macedonia

Member of the European Parliament and member of the committee on foreign affairs (AFET) Željana Zovko successfully integrated amendments to the report on North Macedonia that was voted in the AFET committee today.

The AFET committee voted in favour of an amendment proposed by Zovko and calling on North Macedonia to provide for sufficient funding and staff to the Language Implementation Agency and the Agency for Community Rights Realisation. Moreover, one amendments tabled by Zovko and adopted today regrets that North Macedonia did not ratify the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages.

The AFET committee also integrated an amendment welcoming North Macedonia’s participation in EU military crisis management operations, including EUFOR Althea in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Another amendment commends North Macedonia’s strong determination to counter hybrid threats and decision to create a national strategic framework to counter disinformation.

Moreover, Zovko included an amendment in the report calling on North Macedonia to guarantee quality education for children with disabilities.

The AFET committee also voted in favour of amendments calling on North Macedonia to further align it legislation on drugs with the EU acquis, and encouraging the country to to enhance its efforts to combat money laundering.
