Strasbourg, 8 October 2025
Member of the European Parliament and member of the committee on security and defence (SEDE) of the European Parliament, Željana Zovko, made a speech at the plenary session in Strasbourg about the united response to recent Russian violations of the EU Member States’ airspace and critical infrastructures.
In her address, Zovko stated that the recent incursions into the European airspace show that the threat is multifaceted and that a wide range of means is used to destabilize the European continent.
She underlined that the EU must respond firmly to these hybrid threats.
Zovko insisted that EU Member States must invest in anti-drone systems to protect their critical infrastructures against drone attacks. In this regard, she highlighted that Croatia is doing so, along with a participation in the Drone Coalition to ensure a stable supply of drones to Ukraine and to support the production of drones in Europe.
Moreover, Zovko welcomed the European Commission’s proposal to develop European defence projects such as the Eastern Flank Watch. She stressed, however, that these projects must take into account the full scope of NATO’s flanks, from North to South, from East to West.
Zovko also pointed out that the EU must also increase cooperation with our American partner that remains key to the European continent stability and security.
