Zovko’s amendments included in the report on the EU-US political relations

Brussels, 2 December 2025

Member of the European Parliament and member of the committee on foreign affairs (AFET) successfully included her amendments in the report on the EU-US political relations.

As standing rapporteur of the EPP Group for trade relations with the US in the committee on international trade (INTA) and member of the delegation for relations with the US, Zovko played a central role in the drafting of the report and managed to integrate key amendments.

Some of them relate to the importance of maintaining close cooperation with the US and of increasing defence cooperation with the US, including in contributing to robust and long-term security guarantees for Ukraine in order to deter further Russian aggression. Additionally, Zovko insisted in the report on the crucial importance of US intelligence for the EU.

More specifically, Zovko urged the EU and US to enhance coordination on cybersecurity and resilience against state-sponsored cyberattacks as well as deepen cooperation in the fight against hybrid threats, including acts of sabotage against critical infrastructures and disinformation campaigns. She stressed that the EU-US cooperation is all the more important as hybrid threats aim to destabilise democratic systems and therefore directly threaten the EU and the US values and foundation.

Moreover, Zovko included amendments highlighting the importance of enhancing and diversifying communication channels with the US and recalling the central role of parliamentary diplomacy as illustrated by the Transatlantic Legislators’ Dialogue.

In the report, she also calls to increase exchanges with the US Congress and other relevant US stakeholders and to engage in dialogue also at the states’ level.
