Brussels, 21 March 2017 – The member of the European Parliament Željana Zovko joined on the World Down Syndrome Day the campaign of the World Youth Alliance Europe to raise public awareness and globally promote rights, inclusion and social well-being of people with the Down syndrome who play an important role in our society.
The global media campaign of the World Youth Alliance Europe was initiated on 6 March on social networks under the title ‘socksbattle4DS’.
The campaign was joined by many influential people. MEP Zovko posted on her Facebook and Twitter sites a photograph of her wearing mismatched multi-coloured socks and nominated some of her colleagues to do the same.
The World Down Syndrome Day is symbolically marked with mismatched socks, because the people with Down syndrome are not capable of matching their socks.
The media campaign ‘socksbattle4DS’ ends today, 21 March, the date chosen to mark the uniqueness of the people with trisomy 21.
