Amendments of MEP Zovko adopted by the EP Foreign Affairs Committee

Brussels, 30 August 2017 – The amendments proposed by the Member of European Parliament Željana Zovko were adopted on today’s AFET session within its Opinion on the General Budget of the European Union for the Financial Year 2018.

In her amendments in the context of the EU global strategy (EUGS) MEP Zovko stressed the importance of better coordination of the financing instruments with the purpose of maximising the impact of the financing instruments in developing countries and candidate countries.

Furthermore, in her amendments Zovko called for a more active and focused attention of the European Union in the Western Balkans and stressed the importance of support for political, institutional and economic reforms in the candidate countries and potential candidates under the Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance (IPA).

“Losing the financial assistance and prospect of access to the European Union could open the Western Balkans countries to the influence of non-European third countries, which could subsequently put in question the stability and security of the entire region.“ – as of Zovko.
