Brussels, 10 October 2017 – MEP Željana Zovko’s amendments were adopted today at the session of the Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET) within AFET Recommendations to the Council, Commission and European External Action Service on Eastern Partnership in the eve of the Summit to be held in November 2017.
MEP Zovko stressed in her amendments the importance of taking into account the best practices, especially considering the recent post-conflict areas in South-eastern Europe with the goal to encourage the dialogue about peace and reconciliation between the prominent cultural and religious leaders and ease the tensions in conflict areas.
Furthermore, Zovko appealed in her amendments to promotion of cultural diversities and cultural heritage as an additional instrument of public diplomacy for enhancing dialogue and compromise between the involved parties.
“Promotion of culture and inter-cultural dialogue with the purpose of cultivating peaceful relations between communities and cooperation in the cultural heritage field are pre-requisites for building a sustainable and tolerant society.“ – said Zovko.
MEP Zovko is an active participant of the EPP Group for Inter-cultural and Inter- religious dialogue. Last month she hosted the religious leaders from Azerbaijan in the European Parliament.
