Member of the European Parliament Željana Zovko has participated today in the plenary session in Brussels in the discussion about the introduction of instruments for enhancement of stability and peace.
MEP Zovko stressed that the European Union as an important factor of global order must recognise the coming threats to security and defence in the partner countries and react accordingly.
She added that if the European Union wanted to keep its position of the global leader, it simply must not confine its support to providing aid through available instruments, but must engage actively and trustworthy in conflict-resolution without repeating its mistakes from the past – to stand aside and wait for someone else to resolve the conflicts.
“We have an example when the UN imposed embargo on export of arms and self-defence of Croats in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Their self-defence in BiH has been proclaimed today the joint criminal enterprise. What have we learnt in the past?“ – added Zovko and concluded her speech by expressing condolence to the family of general Slobodan Praljak.
