Member of the European Parliament Željana Zovko has participated today in the debate on the EU Enlargement Strategy onto the Western Balkans, together with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini and European Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn.
MEP Zovko said in her speech that “15 years after the Thessaloniki summit this is an extremely emotional event for the entire Western Balkans, including Bosnia and Herzegovina”, expressing hope that BiH would be a scene of big changes in the course of the year, particularly when it came to coming to a huge compromise, needed to lead the country out of the current deadlock, in order to launch onto the path of integration as a front runner.
“The limit set for all Western Balkans countries is the year 2025. However, there is no limit for the countries. There are limits only for people. It is in their minds where the peace is born or the war is born. I am warmly welcoming the words of the Commissioner Hahn – either we export stability or we import instability.“ – said Zovko, expressing her pleasure with the fact that the summit of EU countries and Western Balkans countries will be held in Zagreb in 2020.
“I sincerely hope Bosnia and Herzegovina will be a stable country until then, firmly going along the path to the European Union. I also hope there will be peace and stability in the Western Balkans, because without peace and stability this region will be left to the already existing forces, which have unfortunately been operating out of control.“ – concluded Zovko her speech.
