Bruxelles, 14 May 2018 – Member of the European Parliament Željana Zovko expressed her deep condolence at the loss of innocent lives during yesterday’s attack on the Christian minority in Indonesia and condemned this terrorist act.
Zovko visited Indonesia from 7 to 9 May as a member of the AFET delegation.
Other members of the AFET delegation were: David McAllister, AFET Chairman (EPP, Germany), Cristian Dan Preda (EPP, Rumania), Doru Frunzulica (S&D, Rumania), Juan Fernando Lopez Aguilar (S&D, Spain), Wajid Khan (S&D, United Kingdom) and Urmas Paet (ALDE, Estonia).
Members of the EP Delegation for Relations with the Countries of Southeast Asia and the Association of Southeast Asia Nations (ASEAN) joined the AFET delegation: Werner Lange, Head of the Delegation (EPP, Germany), Jeroen Lenaers (EPP, Netherlands), Burkhard Balz (EPP, Germany), Peter Kouroumbashev (S&D, Bulgaria), Barbara Lochbihler (Green Party, Germany) and Barbara Kappel (ENF, Austria).
Members of the delegation met government officials, deputies of the Parliament, representatives of the civil society and entrepreneurs with the goal to assess the relations with the European Union and discuss further strengthening of cooperation between the EU and Indonesia.
Members of the delegation had meetings with the members of the ASEAN Committee of Permanent Representatives and with the Secretary General, Dato Lim Jock Hoi, at which they expressed their support to further strengthening of EU and ASEAN partnership.
