Zovko to Prime Minister Hoti: How do you see the balance between the EU and the US mediation efforts?

Brussel, 10 September 2020

Member of the European Parliament Željana Zovko participated in an exchange of views with Kosovo Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti. In his first visit to the European Parliament in his term, Hoti attended the Committee of Foreign Affairs to discuss the developments of the Serbia-Kosovo dialogue.

Zovko took the floor on behalf of the EPP Group as their vice-coordinator for foreign affairs. She welcomed the prime minister in the Parliament and stated that his presence shows that Kosovo has an unambiguous orientation towards the EU.

In her intervention, Zovko focused on the achievements in the first months of Hoti’s term. „We have witnessed a series of high-level meetings between the leaders of Kosovo and Serbia, showing the commitment towards the dialogue,“ Zovko said. „And we applaud the joint statement of commitment towards EU alignment earlier this week, as well as the comprehensive legally binding agreement on normalization of relations last week.“ The EPP member also stated that the decision to drop the trade restrictions was a politically brave step.

In her concluding remarks, Zovko asked the prime minister about his view on the balance between the European and the American approach.
