Zovko in AFET mission to Tajikistan and Uzbekistan

Vice Chair of the Committee of Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament (AFET) Željana Zovko took part in an ad hoc AFET mission to Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The parliamentary delegation paid a visit to the two Central Asian countries to discuss the bilateral relations with the EU and to take stock of the security situation in the region. Both countries are neighbouring Afghanistan and have witnessed first-hand the consequences of the regime change after the departure of the international community.

In Tajikistan, the parliamentary delegation had meetings with President Rachmon and the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The delegation also met with the Ambassador of Afghanistan to Tajikistan and with the Chairman of the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense as well as the Commander of the Border Forces of the State Committee for National Security.

The visit to Uzbekistan included meetings with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Chair of Senate and Deputy Prime-Minister, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade. During their stay in Tashkent, the delegation also participated in a round table discussion at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy.
